RAC creating directory structure and owners

To create the directories on the local file system.
Assuming you have a "grid" user for Grid infrastructure maintenance.
  1. Log in as the root user on each node.
  2. Create the directories and set the ownership and permissions:
For Oracle RAC 10g Release 2/Oracle RAC 11g Release 1:
    # mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
    # mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/crshome
    # mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/dbhome_1
    # chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01/app
    # chmod -R 775 /u01/app

For Oracle RAC 11g Release 2:
    # mkdir -p /u01/app/gridbase
    # mkdir -p /u01/app/grid/product/11.2.0/gridhome
    # chown -R grid:oinstall /u01/app
    # chmod -R 775 /u01/app

    # mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
    # mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
    # chown -R oracle:oinstall /u01/app/oracle
    # chmod -R 775 /u01/app/oracle
